Good things come in small packages

Way back in September of 2011, I attended my cousin Jen's wedding.  It was a very fun occasion, they are a very happy couple, and they have recently been blessed with the sweetest baby boy!   On July 15, 2012 he was born weighing 1 lb. 15oz. and measuring 13.25 inches.  Their son was born 3 1/2 months premature.    He had to be moved to a hospital in another state to receive the medical care he needs.  His parents are with him every day.
This is an early photo of Tuff before he was breathing on his own.

He is a fighter, overcoming every obstacle set before him.  We've nicknamed him Tuff, because he is just that.  The most recent update I've heard states that Tuff is now able to drink and digest his mother's milk, he's breathing on his own, and is up to 2 lbs. 5 oz.  Both parents have finally been able to hold him and give him his first kisses.

Every moment I can, I'm praying for Tuff to keep progressing, to keep gaining weight, to keep fighting.  I pray for his parents, they have a long road ahead of them as well.  I can only imagine how difficult it must be for them.

Sometimes the tiniest footprints leave the deepest impact in our hearts.  I am sharing this post in hopes that you will share a similar story of your own.  I would love to read a long list of premature baby success stories in my comments that I could share with Tuff's parents.  Any words of encouragement, prayers, thoughts, stories, advice, would be greatly apprectiated.

Thanks for your comments!
Rikka

  1. Aww, cute! My nice was also born 3,5 month premature and she's now a happy and cheeky 7 yo! Her birth and all the medical care she revieved has me mesmerized over what Science can do and how far we have come as humans. Don't lose hope, little Tuff will be a big Tuff before you know it.

  4. Hi Rikka, Tuff will certainly be in my prayers, as will the whole family. My first born was 8 weeks premature because I had pre-eclampsia so instead of growing between my 6 mo. and 7 mo. check-ups, she'd actually lost ground. But despite a small start, 2 lbs. 10 oz. (I know to you guys that doesn't sound so small) she's now a healthy 28 year-old.

  6. Sending lots of luck and positive thoughts to you and your family! My cousin's wife gave birth 11 weeks early at the beginning of the year--so I can imagine what your family must be going through right now! Sending best wishes for Tuff, I'm sure he'll stick it out and become a big strong boy!

  7. I just had to say we are sending up prayers for the little guy and all his family. I KNOW what its like as our youngest son was born at 28 weeks, he was 1 lb 14oz 12.6 inches long. We spent 27 weeks in NICU and had a long road over the next few years (so many unknowns when they are so tiny) ...but today he is healthy happy adult! He had two surgerys before he was 10 days old a feeding tube placed at 14 weeks and 6 more surgerys over the next year..but we could see God hands all the way healing him and prepareing us to be his parents. He has been such a blessing he had taught us all to enjoy the little things, to be thankful for the time God gives us and most of all to remember each child is a gift from God. Please tell them we are praying for them.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment! No-reply commentors don't get to read my witty replies, and that's just sad.
